Taking a ride on the San Fran Cable Car is an absolute must! Not only are they a historical way to travel, they date back to 1869, but they also help you to see some unique and special parts of the city. There are three lines to choose from two leave from Powell Street and head towards Fisherman’s Wharf and the other rides from east to west on Californian Street.
Spend a lovely summer afternoon walking around Golden Gate Park. It’s a beautiful park that opened in the 1870s. Stroll along the paths and discover the giant Windmill and Tulips, Stow Lake and the Shakespeare Garden, full of roses. You´ll definitely have some vibrant photographs to show your friends and family when you return home. Some attractions worth a visit are the San Francisco Botanical Garden, the California Academy of Science and the de Young Museum.
The social hub and massive crowd-pleaser Fisherman´s Wharf is the most bustling part of the city, as it´s full of entertainment and offer spectacular views of the bay. You could easily spend a few days here as there are LOTS of things to do and places to eat. Popular attractions include: • The Cartoon Art Museum • Sea Lion Center • Magowan’s Infinite Mirror Maze • Subpar Mini Golf • Museum of 3D Illusions When you visit be sure to take a big appetite! The restaurants at Fisherman’s Wharf offer some of the best seafood in the world. Our top picks include: • Boudin Bistro for a Clam Chowder Bread Bowl. • The Grotto for a Dungeness Crab Sandwich. • Nicks Lighthouse for Lobster Bisque. Are you a beer lover? Then make sure you schedule a visit to the San Francisco Brewing Co, in Ghirardelli Square, for a beer tasting. Their handcrafted beer is excellent!
The “Painted Ladies” are a colorful row of Edwardian and Victorian houses on Alamo Square. You may also know them as the Seven Sisters. They have become a highly recognisable and iconic piece of architecture known synonymously with San Francisco. Their popularity could be linked to them being featured in popular tv shows, such as Full House and Monk. If you want to go inside one, book on to the exclusive private home tour, it only takes place on Saturdays.
Navigating the streets of San Francisco on foot can be very time-consuming and tiring, due to its steep hills. A great way to make sure you get to see all of the top city sights is to book a bus tour. Big Bus Tour has multiple ticket options for their hop-on hop-off tour. You don´t want to return home without at least getting a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, and Chinatown.
Visit a Winery
An absolute must for any first-time trip to San Francisco is a tour of the world-famous prisoner island, Alcatraz. Boats leave from Pier 33 and take you directly to the cell house, which was in operation from 1934 to 1963. Once there you can tour the island and prison to discover what the cells were like, where the prisoners ate and more including some of its mysteries. Before or after touring the island be sure to visit Pier 39, a few piers east, for an animal surprise.
